Behind the scenes #8, Part 1 - Simulating the autumn sun, outdoor photo shoot with Anouk
On a rainy/grey day at the end of october 2009 we did an outdoor photoshoot with Anouk in a forest near Hanover/Germany. To get some warm pictures with the typicall golden autumn sun I prepared a SB-900 with full CTO's to simulate a golden daylight. Mainlight was an Elinchrom Quadra A-Head with a beautydish. This is Part 1, Part 2 will follow in a few days... Pictures can be watch in big here: simonsenphoto.com Have fun! Equipment Nikon D3 with 24-70 mm 85 mm f/1.8 70-200 mm 2.8 VR SB-900 Elinchrom Quadra A-Head Music Joe Colledge - "Beautiful Girl" (you can find him here: www.joecolledge.com) & digitaljuice.com

awsm work
ReplyDeleteThank you! I set the WB manually to around 5600 Kelvin what gave a warm tone in combination with the Elinchrom Quadra. Editing in LR with Nikon's "Standard" profile. But I shot a photo with a grey-/white-card too to be on the safe side for the post process in LR, just in case... ;-)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant photos! Thanks for sharing. Quick question, have you got your WB setting set at Auto throughout the whole shoot? I like the warm tone on Anouk's skin, was this post adjusted in LR? Oops, that two questions =). Thanks in advance. All the best.
ReplyDeleteIt did fit perfectly...best of luck - please look me up if you are in the States.
ReplyDeleteIt was the perfect song for the video. Thank you for your great work, hopefully a lot of people followed the lead to your website I made. If I can return you a favor and take some photographs of you for your business let me know. Perhaps one of us will be on the other continent sometimes :-)
ReplyDeleteNice work - thanks for using my song, "Beautiful Girl" - much appreciated!
ReplyDeletereally cool video - shows the detail of lighting and setup to great effect
ReplyDeleteGreat video. Thank you for making your videos. They sure do inspire me.
ReplyDeletesuper! All of your videos are fantastic. Great learning without a big talk! Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteI would rather photo shoot the trees
ReplyDeleteexellent my friend, pretty good job with all the tech information, im watching the whole playlist and it's superb! lots of thing to learn, thanks for the upload!
ReplyDeleteSweet. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to see more of your videos.
ReplyDeleteThx ;-) The SB-900 was set to manual mode. When using an external flash like the Quadra you can't use iTTL and have to shoot with the camera in M-Mode. So the only way is to set the SB-900 in SU-4 mode (make the built-in photocell active) and put it in M. I think the setting was about 1/4 or 1/8 when we used it as the "sunlight". Hope this helped, please take a look to the corresponding blog post too... :-)
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Very informative and some great pics.
ReplyDeleteQuick question - what was the SB-900 set on ? 200mm + 0EV?
I enjoy your simple, uncomplicated approach to lighting.
Amazing! Delicate and mainly creative to me !
ReplyDeleteKeep up !
: longer... so the background had been overexposed
ReplyDeleteWhat would the exposure be had you not had any flash with you?
