Hello there, are you familiar with "MagicSFXphoto" (do a Google search for it)? There you will find a great free video showing the way to create awesome photographs. It made it possible for Daniel to create pictures that leave you with that wow-effect whenever you take a look at them. Hopefully it works for you also...
ReplyDeleteShouldnt you be taking a refelctive reading of the background?
ReplyDeleteHey Gavin,or anybody out there who knows the answer, total noob question: what about lighiting a cotton white background from behind? would that produce the same "pure white" result?
ReplyDeleteEverything makes sense, but how do you get that shot without a ton of flare into the lens and over-lighting on the subject? Especially in your case, you have the light aimed straight at the background which bounces straight into the lens... I do side lighting and still get enormous amounts of flare. (and I use cheap speedlights) Any tips for the inexperienced guy are appreciated!
ReplyDelete: this works good for bust and three-fourths, if you intend to do for full shots, try lighting the background from both the sides (two lights pointing to background 20° or more), make sure to blind / angle the lights such that it will not flare into the lens.
ReplyDeleteuse a strong light to illuminate the subject (reflectors are optional) adjust distance and ISO settings to suit the composition.
summary : two lights for backgrounds, one key light + reflector for the subject.
: yes, the light meter reading for the subject is the aperture for the shot. +/- to adjust to your desired results. *also tweak on the ISO for optimal results.

ReplyDeleteHey, Gavin! Love the video! What metering method do you use in your camera? Evaluative - Partial - Spot or Center Weight? Do I have to use different metering If I use not one, but two or more light?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Cool
ReplyDeletewhat's that F that shows in your light meter ?! I mean, what does F refer to ?! I also see it in Speedlight flash!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if WhiteOptics would work for your application.
ReplyDeletehey gavin..amazing video..i just luved it....i have a question which i want to clear that you told us in the video to keep the reading in the camera as where the subject is...does this mean we keep the f number in the camera as the f number which came in the light meter???...thanks
ReplyDeleteWow amazing studio work.
ReplyDeleteGAVIN HOEY. YOU SAVED MY LIFE ! AND EARNED ME £250! THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU ARE A GENIUS. THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!
ReplyDeleteGotta love Gavin and his work. The accent is just a plus.
ReplyDeleteHi Gavin, just wondering with a slightly different scenario where you have the infinite white backdrop. You lightup the back just as in this example but would you need to light the ground where your model is standing as well or not? Will there be a visible difference in the brightness or will your lighting from softbox umbrella etc on your model also fill that in.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am self-taught and simple instructions like these are such a help!
ReplyDeletepedo =p
ReplyDeletePlease help me.. I have two umbrella lights and need some advice on how to make sure the background is white. They are both continuous light with no adjuster. And my with backdrop is a white muslin. I would really appreciate any feedback. I am also on a bit of a budget right now, so can't afford to add any extras at this moment.

ReplyDeleteI feel like i could do this!
ReplyDeletePlease help. What are the make and models of those lights and where can I find them? Brilliant work by the way
ReplyDeleteYou need to study Dean Collin's Chromozone system for more accurate background metering. Once you know this...there is no trial and error. You can 100% predict what you will be seeing in the finished photograph. I have not used incident metering of a background in 15 years. MUCH more accurate a system
ReplyDeleteTo be honest i owuld say if you can go with HPS do it...its pretty much guaranteed results LEDs are pretty pricey for ones that will harvest a decent amount..unless yuo just want to do one or two plants than maybe it might be feasible to use a LED light

ReplyDeletei got my seeds from greensprouts.weebly.com they accept paypal and ship discreetly incase you needed a seedbank ;)
ReplyDeleteare all 3 of those lights 120watt?
ReplyDeleteman it look like your girl go some nute burn or heat burn
ReplyDeletei would go with the 2W chips myself I used the 1W and they didnt work well usually when people say 1G from 1W they are referring to HPS which is all I grow with now..If you want go to my channel youll see my latest harvest
ReplyDelete2W will be okay? I read somewhere that 1W produces 1g of bud also I would like to use it for veg and budding periods if i use it with normal cfl lights would this 2w leds make some goods things for weed? thanks sorry for so many questions:D
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to use LED i would get atleast 2W chip lights...the 1W dont hold enough power for a real good grow in my opinion
ReplyDeletehello I want to grow 3 plant what kind of led lights would you recommend I was looking on ebay for this lights and they were very expensive wich one do u use? thanks
you have unwanted stretch grow
ReplyDeleteuse scrog techniek for train the plant not to grow vertical
also air-prunning your roots will increase yields
check out my led grow on my channel and im using standard led light and i getting fat yeilds, im not using the best lights out there but if i was i would be getting even bigger yeilds, led also save you money on eletric, u dnt have heat problems which means less fans etc check out my grow on my channel to see what i mean, peace
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteOh yea he doesnt go into the current room i have now..This was from last year its been updated lol
ReplyDeleteNo animals in the grow room!
Gr
charle browns Christmas tree?
ReplyDeleteDoper F#@kwit
ReplyDeleteI tied a shoestring to the wire coming down holding the light and the other end to one of the wood studs you see in the video...Keep it there all 10 weeks lol
