HOMEMADE OPTICAL FIBER FIBRE OPTIC LIGHTING CABLE DIY Do it yourself Fiber Optic Cable Optical Fibre

This video is an introduction to future videos on how to make your own optical fiber cable for indoor lighting applications. I imagine it could be used for short data transfers but will not say for sure. www.youtube.com I am working on getting the perfect filling for this.

  14. i found a site that offers fiber optics at a reasonable price, i think there prob resin fibers, clubs and stuff, but they offer for anyone, i'd like you to check it out. if interested could you let me know, i can send you the info, web address, in and email or something, im not trying to advertise for them just i think it might be a good place to get fiber for lighting at home at a good price. pls get back to me ok.

  16. Brilliant, Dan!! I have been looking for a way to incorporate daylight in a teardrop I am planning to build, and I think I could cut small sections of this and insert them right through the shell with some caulk to seal it...very excited about this!! I was looking at fiber optic as well for night time use...how to use them side by side would be a design challenge but I'm game for it! Saved to favorites, this is fabulous!

  18. If you just want to experiment with fibre optics, clear nylon fishing line works surprisingly well in large diameters. Lay out a bunch of lengths inside a tube or inside electrical heat shrink to get a nice flexible cable. It probably won't transmit very far, but its fun just to play around with.

  19. This works like our unplugged DNA and re- ascending to the light!

  20. Excellent ideas...I really enjoy your videos. Why not just use water? It has total internal reflection and works well. I have made several lights using LEDs, a water filled tube and a joule thief circuit. It remains flexible too.

  24. So did you ever find a better resin?

  25. What about using 100lb fishing line?

  26. There should be a store (like Apple store) where you pick from bins of different cheap optic connectors, splitters, and fixtures for light piping your house- with no permit needed because it is not electrical or plumbing!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Light tube from your roof to inside the house is a lot cheaper for lighting purposes.

  28. whats the name of the clear fiber resin?

    ReplyDelete
  29. i want to ask about a what kind of material that you input to the ruber tube

    ReplyDelete
  30. - interesting point also.

    ReplyDelete
  31. - lol, and yes.

  32. Hey Guys,
What kind of resine should i use to make it, where can i find it, and this "tube" could be a normal plastic tube?
    Thks
