what lens did you use?
ReplyDeletecanon 50d. (camera really makes no difference, you can achieve similar results using entry level or high end camera)... its the lighting and post processing.
ReplyDeleteyou can try different ways of positioning your lights, there's no right or wrong, just preference... sometimes i position my lights higher, aiming down,,, other times waist level, for a ring flash feel... just preference.., try different things see which works for you. i use Hensel.

ReplyDeleteHey there, have you tried "PhotoSFXart" (just google it)? There you will find a smart free video showing the way to take outstanding photographs. It made it possible for Joe to take pictures that leave you with a jaw-dropping-effect after you look at them. Hopefully it will work for you as well...

ReplyDeletePhotographers like you: Take pictures in a normal way > Photos look too good to be true > It seems the photo is extremely retouched > I then feel like a horrible photographer because I will never get these results.

ReplyDeleteGreat Photography! I am wondering why your lights would be slightly below eye level aimed at the waist, this is so different then what I have been taught, Also, I noticed your umbrella appears to be bit deeper than most is it a Hensel? silver or translucent,

ReplyDeleteyou have to underexpose the background and use powerful strobe flashes to expose the subject, in this case the subject is the model. thats how you get a dark saturated background and a bright perfectly exposed subject (model). next step is photoshop. you adjust the contrast, boost saturation, airbrush the skin, use dodge and burn on the skin, bring out highlights in hair and eyes, and you get these results. arthur st. john does this very well. i've learned much from him.
