Zacuto Z-FinderPro Review - outdoor lighting

Zacuto Z-FinderPro Review

www.learningdslrvideo.com Works great for seeing the screen in harsh outdoor lighting Exposure is harder to judge, even dark scenes 2 stops low look property exposure using the finder, adjust screen brightness? Motion of the playback looks chopper than it actually is perhaps because of all the magnification. I am on a list to review the new Sony Alpha 77 camera - no need for this? I am sold on the idea of owning one of these, I just want to review some in the 5 range to see if there is that big of a difference. I like the eye cup nice and soft Mounting is a little slow, meaning several times I have headed outside for a quick shot and didn't have the mounting plate and and said ah screw it too much work I don't have time to put it on the camera. I love the idea as a tool, I just can't recommend it for the price unless you are a pro like Philip Bloom. If you are a pro and on the set where thousands of dollars of money is going by each hour then you might want to buy the best. 5 is a lot of money for this thing for a hobbyist Works nice on my Manfrotto monopod Will it work on a Tilt screen? 2. yes you do...pictures and videos can't capture the effect it gives you in person....it's like glowing slick plasitc wrap waving drifting and dissipating...it has that hologram sort of glow!

  3. wow, thanks for telling me that, and by the way do you really get dizzy when you look at it too long?

  4. evolution is fact...what is a hoax is stating that ALL species originated from a single cell...but there is no denying that we have evolved from neanderthals....and we have evolved consciously and socially so much over this past century(while surprisingly there is still a large majority, the mindless meme generation which are actually devolving) so there is a great schism being formed, which would be another form of evolution, so now it's about intellectual survival!

  5. because stars are beautiful, and when you can't see the majesty of your own galaxy it's like a part of you is missing, you won't understand unless you've been up north in the country areas where there are no lights around and you can see the milky way and the aurora's glowing in the sky....it's a natural trip, if you look at a strong aurora for too long you can start to feel dizzy!

  6. Glare makes it hard to see at night, A light shining in a window at night makes going to sleep not as easy. Some lights make birds run into buildings at night. Blue light at night can adjust your sleep pattern so you can not sleep as well.

  10. We must join with the forces of Darkness so that we can one day vanquish the lights of artifice and civilization that obscure the cosmic Æthers so. Embrace the Shadow.

  12. Definately worthy of 5*

  13. I would much rather go for an external Monitor on an articulating arm or if I really want to spend some money a SmallHD DP4 w/ viewfinder.

  14. The Zacuto is somewhere in a no-man's land. It is to expensive for a Hobby filmer and it is not versatile enough for a pro filmer - which is also my biggest complaint. Because the form factor is so small a dslr gives you amazing capabilities when it comes to composing your shot. The viewfinder however is only good as long as your camera is right in front of your eye. It doesn't even work with the T3i's and 60D's articulating screen (which is the big selling point of these cameras).

  15. LCDVF is a great one for about $140 canadian, goes on magnetically, super stable super quick ships pretty fast as well

  17. I like my Z-Finder Pro just fine. As for the issue of the bracket on the camera, just leave it on the camera (even when you're not using it). Then it'll be there when you need it. (And it doesn't get in the way of anything.)

  18. The Canon LCD has only 15fps. Thats why its jiddering ;)

  19. Dave is a review about the Z-Finder or if is expensive or not???

  20. Hi Dave, Greetings from sunny London UK,, LETUS has (I think) the best lupe for the 7D/5D it does have a diopter adj. and the plate can be left on without any problems, in fact I like the feel of it so leave it on, its 2.75x so perfect as 3x is too much and looks distorted also. The quick release system works perfect, over $300 but worth it. Not available in UK, I got mine direct from Letus. All the best dc

  21. If you have eye glasses you need the Zacuto Z-FinderPro. The Zacuto Z-FinderPro is the only viewfinder with a diopter.

Panasonic GH2 is a good camera if you have bad eyesight as it has a LCD viewfinder.

  22. How about the LCDVF, I have one and its great. Easy to take on and off, great magnification. Has a soft eye cover. Cheap.

  23. why don't you upload your videos in 1080p?

  24. I use a caryspeed viewfinder on my 60d. I leave the bracket on the camera (don't use the tilt/swivel much) and just pop it on when I'm outside. for $30 it gets the job done well

  25. Buy the LCDVF: great quality/price.

  26. The perfect LCD VF is awesome for the price! I also have one and I just keep it in my bag.

  27. Good job Dave. I can't seem to part with my money that easily either, but there are two things that keep pulling me back to the Zacuto Pro over the others. 1 - Is that I am anal about gluing things to a $2000 camera, and 2 - and the most critical, the Pro has a focusing diopter thing going on. When you test out any others, can you state whether the farsighted people can use these without having to trow on glasses [VERY important]. Thanks again. [Isn't that bottom plate supposed to remain on?]

  28. It would be great if you could try some of the ones off of amazon for under $100.00. Love your reviews! Thanks!

  29. I find these LCD viewfinders are pretty much only useful for the added point of contact and stability... On my 550D/T2i, all they do is highlighting how pixelated and delayed the LCD is.
Do you know of any specific advantages to this other than those, or is it just that the T2i display isn't all that good?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Dave, I also have the Carry Speed3 for T2i and I absolutely love it! I bought it for $39 on eBay and haven't been disappointed ever since I use it :)

  31. graet stuff - very useful to know the limitations, not just the pros, of DSLR-related gear. Many thanks!

  32. Dave, great video as usual. I love the way that you are using your turntable in some of your newer videos. I agree that the Z-finderPro is way too pricey. I'm just geting into DSLR and I've already found out thet the camera is by far less expensive that the lenses, lighting, accessories, etc. I'm using a T3i with the flip LCD panel. Have you tried any of the viewfinders that have the magnetic frame that mounts to the LCD? I'm wondering if they would interfere with closing the LDC panel.

  33. Try out the Varavon Loupe EX. It's hard to find for sale but I had a go at a camera shop and it seems like the best for price viewfinder. It retails for about $220 AUD I think.

  34. Can you make a Review on cheap LCD screen ?

    Thanks , Gabriel

  35. Agreed I would really like this but I got the LCDVF instead and I love it!

Hey Dave, thanks for the review! I love to see someone review something that they aren't convinced I should buy. Thanks!!

I've learned a TON from your videos. I am working on a consistent light setup.. but haven't solved that yet.

    Thanks for the review!
