TorchLED BOLT LED light panel Hands on Review - DSLR FILM NOOB

www.dslrfilmnoob.com The TorchLED BOLT by Switronix is an extremely high power LED light panel. At full power it puts out around 200 watts of equivalent light (about 3800 lux). The unit is a bit bigger and bulkier then other LED light panels, but it does provide more then 10 times the amount of light. The TorchLED BOLT is perfect for situations where you have no access to electricity and still need a lot of light in a very small package. Three TorchLED BOLT light panels could be the perfect setup for a basic outdoor lighting kit. But there are a few down sides. First and probably the biggest problem for people on a budget is the price. At 9 the TorchLED BOLT is probably more then some are willing to spend. I personal don't believe that the 9 price tag is out of line for the amount of light this panel provides, but I could see many people opting for very long power cords and cheaper CFL kits. The other concern is that even though this would be perfect for outdoor shooting, the case is filled with ventilation holes. Any rain could be a death sentence for the unit. Although, honestly that is a very easy thing to avoid, just don't dip it in water. Overall, if you need that much light in this kind of package, I would highly recommend you consider the TorchLED BOLT in your selection process. It is by far the best bang for your buck I've seen so far in LED light panels and I'm still amazed at how much light it provides. If you're in the market for something like this ...

These lights look great. Any issues with multi-shadows, as w/ some LED panels?

  3. That's the reason why I have another sheet of sandwich paper between the LEDs and the softening-filter. Then it's possible to shoot interviews with lowest power adjustment.

  4. I don't think I would shine this light directly into someones eyes unless you have it turned way down. The light output is much more useful when you need to light large areas or provide fill light.

  5. I have a 40$-Lightpanel and I don't understand how you can use more brightness. When I shoot interviews the people run away screaming that their eyes are damaged :-D

  6. Great review!

  7. I understand that mechanic, but for comparison reasons id like to see all distances shot at the same settings so you can tell exactly how much light is falling off, and not kinda estimate if it will work for you.

  8. If you double the ISO setting (400 to 800), you half the amount of light required to reach exposure. So at 12 feet from the subject the camera received half as much light as it did at 7 feet from the subject. So you now know exactly how much light is available.

  9. Great to have you and your informative experience back. :3
How was the move and how are you finding the studio?

  10. Changing the iso in between testing distances was dumb, now I have 0 idea of brightness.

  11. Word, thanks for the reply. I'll have to look more seriously into the Bolt. Also, not sure if you take requests, but I'd love to see a review on the new Rode Stereo Mic Pro. I've been experimenting with the Video Mic Pro and have been a bit disappointed with it for run and gun. I'm hoping the new Rode SMP might be a better fit.

  14. The build quality and light output are much much better on the Bolt then the z96. The bolt uses quit a bit of power, so you probably wouldn't have very long run times if you adapted it to double AA batteries 6 or 8 battery might only last you an hour.

  15. I like the battery pack, but it would be nice if it also run on AAs. Any idea how it would compare to the HDV-z96 LEDs?
