How to Install an Outdoor Motion Sensor Light

How to Install an Outdoor Motion Sensor Light - outdoor lighting

How to Install an Outdoor Motion Sensor Light

Learn how to install a motion sensor light with this step-by-step instructional video from Lowe's. Installing motion sensor lights is easier than ever with this detailed walk-through video from Lowe's. Remember to read the instructions that come with your new exterior light. You will need to turn off the power to your exterior light from the circuit breaker box. Label the circuit switch with a piece of tape or note to make sure nobody turns the power back on when you are working. Remove your old light fixture and use a circuit tester to make sure there is no power flow by placing it on the wires. After you confirm the power is out, remove the old fixture. Use caulk to seal any open screw holes to prevent moisture from entering your wall. Take the new mounting plate and screw it to the wall. Next, attach the new lighting fixture to the existing wires using wire caps. Set the fixture onto the screws that are on the mounting plate and use the nuts to secure it into place. Screw in your light bulb, restore power at the circuit break, and your new outdoor motion sensor light is installed. 1. OK if you have all the tools, otherwise hiring an electrician could actually be cheaper

  2. Glad you mentioned this. I bought & installed the same light fixture used in the video. The instruction booklet explicitly states in the "Final Assembly" section: Caulk around fixture base with silicone weather sealant after all testing and adjustments are complete. N

  7. This video was designed for people who want to change an existing fixture. If you want an exterior light and do not have a fixture already there you will have to run wire and install a box. This requires more electrical expertise and should be installed by an electrician. Thank you for watching the Lowe's YouTube Channel. --Lowe's

  8. This is also a great idea if the home will be vacant for any period of time. High wattage bulbs take a lot of power so pick wisely.
